Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Characters I’d Name a Baby After
It’s that time again. The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. Today’s topic is: Characters I’d Name a Baby After
This is a tough one honestly. Either I’d have every day run of the mill names from the romance books I read (and I’m sorry, I don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings, but really aside from super uncommon names folks use that are family names or ones that are really weird that I’d never use. So, this leaves fantasy novels or dystopian ones. Something different. But nothing that would get my kid teased horribly in school.
So … do I use Claire or Jaime from Outlander?
Katniss, Rue, Gale from The Hunger Games?
Audrey Rose from Stalking Jack the Ripper? … actually I kind of like that one!
Roarke or Eve from the “In Death” series?
Thomas, Theresa, Newt from The Maze Runner?
Honestly, I haven’t read any books with names that I think “Yes! That’s an awesome name for a baby.” So do I have a good answer for this post? Not really.
What about you? Have you ever read a book and thought you’d potentially name your baby after that character? Who and why?
I’d use Eve and Roarke – my fav characters of all time!
Agree! I love those two <3
I actually think Katniss would be a cool name.
I really do, too. Actually, there are a lot of flowers and herbs that have really neat names to use. I think Suzanne Collins was well inspired!
Yeah, picking names is tough, especially if you’re hoping to use a character’s name.
I know someone who named her daughter after Ayla in the Earth’s Children series. Everyone else I know chose names that didn’t come from fictional characters.

It seems like 5-7 years after a popular book or series of books, you start seeing kids coming into the school system with names from those books. LOL! I’m sure the Katniss and Rue’s are gonna start popping up soon. They’re really cool names, though.
Agreed! Way… way… way back on a show called “Party of Five”, the hottie was named Bailey. I had named my dog that at the time (not for Bailey on that show, for Beetle Bailey the cartoon, lol). All of a sudden, every time I turned around either kids or dogs were named Bailey.
Thanks for stopping by!
Some of my favorite series and names! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Told you Roarke was popular 😀
Roarke sounds cool and I like Bette (as in Bette Davis), too. Guess she’s not a literary character. Hmm…Good list tho. I like it.
Thanks!
Come on, admit it, you are a romantic. I don’t see one practical name on that list; not an Edith, and Mary, a Beth, nothing.
LOL… but most of those are from dystopian novels… not too terribly romantic. Of course, romance is what I write, so ….
Audrey Rose was also a movie about a possessed girl that they used to show on TV on Sunday afternoons. It was probably a bad movie, but when I was a kid, I loved it.
I vaguely remember that movie … I actually really like the name Audrey. I have a niece with that name now 🙂
My son’s nickname is Ru, but it’s not from The Hunger Games. There are so many great choices! It’s difficult to choose. I do like Eve and Roarke. 🙂
Is Ru short for something? Or just Ru?
Ruslan. As in Ruslan Fedotanko. The hockey player. Everyone mispronounces his name, so most of the time he just goes by Ru.
I actually really like that name…and at least there won’t be five of them in his classes at school! 🙂
I hadn’t even thought of the name Rue. I LOVE that name and it’s simple and not overbearing (Like Katniss). And yes, Roarke and Eve are perfect romantic names and his made quite a lot of appearances (for good reason, lol)
Rue was such a sweet, charming character in The Hunger Games, I’m betting there are going to be a LOT of kids named that 🙂
I actually like Katniss, but it would probably be awkward in a few years’ time.
