Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Favorite movies of all time and why
It’s that time again. The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. Today’s topic is: Favorite movies of all time and why
Ooooooh … this is a tough one. I love movies. LOVE. I start jonesing if I haven’t been to the movies in a few months. I’d go weekly if I could. And I love to rewatch movies. I’m not like some people (… you know who you are… ) who don’t like to reread books or rewatch movies. When I love something, I can’t get enough of them. So, off the top of my head, in no particular order than the order in which they came to me, here are at least some movies that I’ve watched dozens of times, can quote from and recommend to friends.
1. The Princess Bride
Because, of course. Seriously, anyone who doesn’t enjoy this movie at least a little needs their IQ and sense of humor checked. So clever, so fun, so silly and sweet. I quote from this ALL.THE.TIME. “I’m not a witch, I’m your wife!” or “He’s only mostly dead.” or “Mawwige… mawwige is what bwings us togedder today…”
2. Undercover Blues
Bet you haven’t heard of this one! It was never super popular, but OMG so funny!! Here’s the trailer:
And Stanley Tucci stole the show as Muerte:
3. Cat Ballou
Way back when I was in high school, and TV only had five channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and UHF), in the summer there was either repeats or, in my area, the TV 40 Classic Film Festival! I watched a (new to me) classic every night. I saw Casablanca, Mr. Deeds Goes to Washington, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and so many more … and I saw what eventually became one of my favorite movies of all time, Cat Ballou.
I’m sensing a theme here …
4. Back to the Future Trilogy
Such a clever set of movies… yeah, the second one wasn’t great, but 1 & 3 were a hoot!
5. The Road to El Dorado
My kid turned me on to this one… bet you haven’t heard of this either! SO MUCH fun. If you have a slightly warped sense of humor, you should watch this one…
6. All things Marvel…
7. While You Were Sleeping
Bored yet? Okay, I’m going to stop my list, but in a nutshell … I love romantic comedy, action/adventure, mystery/suspense, sci-fi/fantasy… actually about the only thing I don’t like is stupid humor (pretty much every Adam Sandler, for example). I’m so excited to see everyone else’s posts for ideas on what to watch!
OMG can you believe I have never seen the Princess Bride??!! I keep getting told I need to watch it but it never comes around on commercial tv and I don’t remember to rent it on itunes!!! everyone I know simply loveloveloves that movie!! Good choices, my dear!
HOW have you never seen “The Princess Bride”. This is possibly one of the best ever movies. Silly, yes. But clever and fun and sweet. And SO SO quotable. You need to rectify that oversight soon… π
I still haven’t seen “The Princess Bride” and I love Adam Sandler. I also loved Back to the Future.
You haven’t seen “The Princess Bride”?!? I’m not sure we can still be friends… π
Thanks for coming by (and yes, I know you were talking about me ). re: Adam Sandler – have you ever seen “50 First Dates”? It’s not typical Sandler. I loved it.
I actually haven’t seen that movie. I did like “The Wedding Singer” okay, so if it’s like that, I’ll give it a try. I actually feel badly dissing the man — he’s SUPER nice (he’s from here… my kid’s actually met him a few times because he eats where she works). And yes, I WAS talking about you… π
Hehehehe. I’ve seen the Princess Bride. Love it. But Cary Elwes…how can you not love him?
Good list. I’m a Marvel Girl, too. <3
I know you love Marvel… what’s not to like? Hot guys, tons of action, kick butt women? Yeah, baby!
One of the good things Wednesday Musings and all of these subjects I gripe about (teehee) is that you get to “think” you know another person. Then sometimes you are really surprised and others not. Here’s one of them…although I think we have quite a bit in common, it sure isn’t movies. I did love The Avengers though. I also loved your post!
I have a really, really warped sense of humor, so … one of these days, we’ll get together IRL and you’ll see π
I totally agree, Kathy. These prompts have been great for that so far. π
The Princess Bride is such a classic, and so is the Back to the Future trilogy.
My post.
Thanks for stopping by, Lydia!
YES! The Princess Bride made my list, too. <3 Love While You Were Sleeping as well. And while I'm one of those who doesn't re-read books, I do love to rewatch favorite movies.
My list
Not re-read books! Oh, the horror!
If you could see the stacks of books I have piled up… I have no time! π
Undercover Blues is one of my favorite movies!!!
YAY! Someone else who’s seen it. There aren’t very many people I know who’ve heard of it.
“He’s mostly dead.”
The Princess Bride is a quotable movie fest.
It really, really is, and I do all the time! Seeing the husband off for work, “Have fun storming the castle!” or while waiting in a very long line for something, “You’ve just had one hour sucked from your life. Howe do you feel?”.
I loved “While You Were Sleeping”. I don’t watch a lot of romance but that was a good one.
Because it was atypical and largely about how she interacted with the entire family, not just romance focused. I have a few rom/coms I love because of the cast ensemble, like this one.
