Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Day in My Life

It’s that time again. The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. Today’s topic is: A Day in My Life
Oh boy … let’s see…I’ll use the weekdays, since they’re a bit more predictable.
I get up freaking early every day (weekdays, I have to be up at 4 a.m., but since I’m used to it, I pretty much get up at 4 a.m. on the weekends, too).
I…”Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
Yawn and stretch and try to come to life
..” (bonus points if you can name that tune)
Once I have the java, I make the dogs’ breakfast and set up my husband’s coffee pot (I drink dark roast, he drinks light roast, so we have two pots). Then it’s time to take the puppies outside, freezing cold or boiling hot, rain, shine, sleet or snow. I don’t have a fenced in yard, so we all three go out together (thankfully, I live on a quiet cul-de-sac so going out in my jammies isn’t TOO scandalous).
Then it’s time for work. For those of you who might not know, I’m co-owner of both Long and Short Reviews and Goddess Fish Promotions. And at 4 a.m. every weekday, my biz partner and I check and promote any virtual book tours we’re running. It usually takes at least 2 hours between the two of us to get it done.
At 6:15 I wake the rest of the house, get dressed and walk the puppies (unless it’s raining–I’ll walk in snow, but not rain). We walk a couple of miles every morning to get their wiggles out a little, then it’s home, breakfast and usually back to work. After this, my day looks like this for several hours:
Work.
Take the puppies out.
Work.
Take the puppies out.
Work.
Take the puppies out.
You get the idea. Chores of one kind or another are sprinkled in, as needed (laundry, cleaning, errands, etc), and lately I’ve been trying to get some writing done in there, too.
Afternoon/evening is about making dinner, eating dinner, cleaning up and then … it’s back to work again. Yep, it’s true. Work dominates my life. It’s a good thing I like what I do. Obviously, I’ll spend time with my husband and daughter when they’re home, but honestly, my kid works pretty much full time, and is in college also full time, so even though she still lives here, I don’t see her as much as I’d like. And my husband works hellaciously long hours, so we mainly see each other on the weekends.
Not very glamorous life, but it’s mine. Now, if you’ll excuse me… I have to take the puppies out…

  1. You have dribbly puppies. But so do I. Grin. I know the I’ve just sat down to get work done but I’m getting up to put the dogs out because they’ve got to go AGAIN dance. I do it often.
    Good post. 🙂

    1. Re: I’m getting up to put the dogs out because they’ve got to go AGAIN dance. … yeah, I know that dance..

  2. What kind of dogs are they? I know zero about dogs. My husband has big plans of getting a dog when our child is older…
    4 am is early!!!

    1. Both dogs are Labrador Retriever mixes. Brandy (the brown one) is a Golden Retriever/Lab mix and has the sweetest personality. She’s also the mellower of the two. Kenzie (the black one) is a Beauceron/Lab mix and is a nutball, lol. She’s our energizer bunny and never slows down. Re: getting a dog when you have kids (regardless of age), I highly recommend something in the retriever family (Golden, Labrador, etc). They are usually a lot more tolerant of kids and their natures are active, but patient (again, usually, all dogs are different). I would NOT recommend small dogs (20 lbs or under) or anything in the herding breeds (because… they are not usually as patient, are FAR more active and will actually herd the kids). Some of the guard dog breeds are okay if raised right (like German Shepherds) but I wouldn’t recommend them for inexperienced dog owners because they can be a handful. Please do research before you get a dog, though. And, try to take obedience classes with them AND take the kids, so they can learn, too! Dogs are awesome and I’ve always had them.

    1. Thanks 🙂
The black one is Kenzie and the brown one is Brandy. And it’s a darn good thing they’re cute… just saying.

  3. Those dogs are so cute…and so in charge. LOL!
We have a doggie door that goes to a large dog run. But they also went out with me on the farm when I tend the animals. Now it’s just Nana and she follows me everywhere.

    1. The puppies have a stare that won’t quit, so when they are bored THEY ARE BORED and drill me with it… it’s true. Re: doggie door — I’d give my right arm for one, but I can’t convince my hubs that a fenced in area wouldn’t be a complete eyesore. oh well. Is Greg looking at puppies yet? Pet Finder is loaded with them!

  4. Aw, the pups are so cute. And I hear you. My husband gets home much later than he used to, but it’s still reasonable at least. Hahaha – that’s the biggest benefit to having cats: you don’t have to walk them. 🙂
    My post!

    1. My hubs works out of state (we’re in New England, so that’s not unusual here–I can drive through three states in the time it takes to drive between the borders of one out west), so his commute adds in, too. Fun times! Re: Cats — have one of those, too and she’s a PITA but I love her.

      1. I have a friend who lives in Long Island and when she visited family in New Mexico, she didn’t understand that they couldn’t just pop in the car and drive to Phoenix. LOL But that kind of commute must suck for him.
My kitten (she’s 8 months old) has a vendetta against the calendar hanging on my wall. Keeps knocking it down. *sigh* So yeah, PITA is putting it mildly!
