Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: My go to book or movie for a pick me up
It’s time again for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews.
Today’s topic is: My go to book or movie for a pick me up
Honestly…this depends on what kind of mood I’m in.
If I’m sad, and need a happy book I’ll usually hit up my keeper shelf for a Jennifer Crusie book. A couple of my favorites are Agnes and the Hitman and Getting Rid of Bradley. I’m not usually a fan of movies that are comedies (at least not anything in the last 20 years or so), so I’ll stick to books for this. Feel free to recommend comedy movies that aren’t profane, stupid or relying on sexual or bodily function jokes and I’ll give them a try.
If I’m angry or stressed, I usually prefer to watch a movie that has people beating each other up or having lots of explosions or cities being destroyed. It’s very cathartic (if I’m in the car and in this mood, I’ll put on hard rock: Hinder, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, etc). One of my favorite disaster movies of late is San Andreas. I also really enjoyed the Netflix movie, Extraction (though my neighbor, who I recommended it to, hated it). I also will try out pretty much any Jason Bourne movie (though the first one is the best).
For times I’m just unsettled or “splat” (a term I use when I’m just not much of anything…happy, sad, angry, etc) I’ll lean toward a reality cooking show (like Chopped or Guy’s Grocery Games) or some kind of athletic competition (like American Ninja Warrior or The Titan Games).
Lately? … I’ve been watching a LOT of movies with things that blow up…
I really should watch San Andreas sometime!
You should. It’s actually pretty decent and what’s not to like about The Rock?
There is nothing wrong with the ‘explosion’ movie. Sometimes, you need the rest of the world to ‘explode’ via the movie to make your world balance again. I get it. 🙂
Exactly.
And screaming along with Seether helps, too… even though most of the time I’m a solid country music gal, lol.
I love a good blow em up movie!
I’m a Food Network junkie so I fully support that last paragraph! My kids and I love GGG and Worst Cooks.
Have you heard there’s a petition to change the name of Columbus, OH to Flavortown? Apparently, Guy Fieri is from there and the residents have been petitioning to change the city’s name for a few years now. I got a good laugh out of that yesterday.
My post
We’re enjoying the Titan Games. It’ s lot different this year. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/06/wc-062420.html
Interesting choice of books and movies. I liked San Andreas. Thanks for sharing. Here’s mine. https://www.tenastetler.com/lsrs-wednesdays-blog-challenge-my-go-tobook-or-movie-for-a-pick-me-up/
Heck yes on the violence-and-explosions approach (or even cheesy swordfights – I’ve been known to go back to the older Conan The Barbarian film just to savor how completely overdone it is).
My list is here.
I’m more a rom-com person but definitely get how violence is cathartic too – Warrior is my go to (with Tom Hardy and Joel Egerton as rival cage fighting brothers) or Hot Fuzz!
I really enjoyed San Andreas too (only rewatched it just the other day) but I pretty much enjoy every film featuring Dwayne Johnson. They’re always engaging and fun. I REALLY liked Skyscraper. That was a blast.
I did love San Andreas. I like a good disaster film.
