Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Things I’m Thankful For
It’s time again for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews.
Today’s topic is: Things I’m Thankful For
Wow … this could be an endless list. Seriously, I really try to maintain an attitude of gratitude. It’s not always easy, but I do try to name one thing every day I’m grateful for. Sometimes it’s as basic as being unbelievably grateful for potable water. I mean, there are millions of people in this world who can’t just turn on a faucet and drink. And some times I’m honestly overwhelmed by the fact I can. Honestly, I probably have a unique worldview about this, because twice in my life I’ve lived without running water.
I’m also incredibly grateful for the other basics in life… food, shelter, clothes. Again, I come from a unique world view because I’ve lived without enough of all those things. When I was 10 y.o. we lived in a tent. I owned two pairs of pants and because we didn’t have electricity, I’d have to wear the same pair to school for a few days while I hand-washed and let the other pair air dry. Thank heavens kids weren’t as cruel when I was young as they can be now. But I don’t take things like clothes (or electricity!) for granted. I am so blessed.
I’m also grateful for good friends. Honestly, nothing beats a friend who sticks by you no matter what. Who listens when you need an ear, who holds you when you need a shoulder. I can count my friends who I feel this way about on one hand with fingers left over, but they are more valuable than gold.
I’m blessed with an incredible daughter who I wouldn’t trade for the world. If I had created one from scratch and made her exactly right for me, she’s who I would have made.
I have a husband who puts up with me. Seriously, I sure as heck wouldn’t want to live with me so it’s frequently amazing to realize someone else is managing to do so! Of course, he says the same thing about himself, so I guess it’s true there’s someone for everyone. We’re hitting 24 years married next year, so far, so good!
The little things matter, too: my dogs (those still here, and those waiting for me across the rainbow bridge), my extended family and so much more. While I still complain about things because I’m human and imperfect, really I don’t have a lot to complain about.
I am really and truly blessed.
Yes, you are!! and that is wonderful!!!
<3
I’m thankful I know you, too. You’re a great friend.
I get it about being thankful for having water/running water/a bathroom. When you don’t have one, it’s wonderful when you finally do.
Great list. <3
This was a lovely post, Marianne. 🙂
It sounds like you have a wonderful life, Marianne. I’m so glad you have so much to be thankful for!
I’d love to know your thoughts on the whole tiny house movement the kids are doing these days, after hearing of your experience living in a tent when you were younger 🙂
Oh … that topic (and the topic of my childhood of “getting back to nature”) would be its own, very lengthy, blog post. I may have to write it one day!
This is an amazing list and a great way to start my morning. Also, you reminded me that my wedding anniversary is… tomorrow? LOL
My post.
Very well said. And you’re right: it’s amazing the things we take for granted sometimes.
My post is here.
You truly have much to be thankful for. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/
Wow! You are indeed blessed! I’m so glad you have so much to be thankful and being married for 24yrs and counting, now that is super impressive and indeed you should be grateful.
I didn’t have much too growing up and having access to basic necessities was considered luxury! But in all, we were always happy and even when we were considered the poorest in my neighborhood, we were the happiest and most contented family and that stick till now… I never take anything for granted and that attitude of gratitude we were raised with made the difference between us and all the children we grew up with!??
Thanks for stopping by mine earlier ??????
