Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Books I’ve Recommended and Why
It’s time again for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews.
Today’s topic is: Books I’ve Recommended and Why
I could probably have an unlimited post for this, but I’ll restrain myself and just list a few of the first ones that popped into my head.
First off… fiction:
Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer — I have recommended this to a few folks. I love a good rom/com AND I have an incredibly warped sense of humor, so this book about a cleaner for the mob as the hero? I was totally down (plus I’ve always enjoyed Jennifer Crusie’s books). The characters here are wide, varied, unique and completely three dimensional. As long as you don’t mind people being killed (in a light manner), then I can’t recommend this one enough. So much fun.

Naked in Death by J.D. Robb — I’ve recommended this to a couple of people. It’s the first book in the “In Death” series and it’s one of the few series I’ve ever read that manages to stay fresh enough to keep me excited to read the next book. I’ve loved reading and growing with cast of characters… not just Eve and Roarke, who have certainly changed over the years, but others: Mavis and Summerset and Peabody… It’s a family to me now, and I wait anxiously for each upcoming release.

Next up… Non-fiction:
In Defense of Food and The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan
This man is one of the most level-headed authors of books on nutrition I’ve ever read. He’s the person who gave me my favorite line ever: “Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.” As a side note, he does have a definition of “food” in his book. If you’re confused about all the hype regarding various “diets” out there (low carb, keto, paleo, whatever) I highly recommend these two books. One discusses food and how it’s evolved over the years and the other discusses how we relate to and develop/harvest/butcher our “food” today. They aren’t hard to read and they’re just interesting.

Prescription for Nutritional Healing – I wrote about this book on an earlier post for WWBC here. It’s one of my favorite “go to” books on health. My earlier post is pretty comprehensive, so if you’re interested in something regarding natural health care, go take a look.

There are undoubtedly many, many more, but these are the first ones I thought of. Now, wow me with your recommendations!
Great list (and yes, I’ve read all of them on your recommendation… with the exception of Agnes and the Hitman. I need to remedy that, I think! My post is here.
Agnes is pretty warped, but so funny. You should give it a try 🙂
OMG I”ve read everyone of those books!! there are all fabulous!!!
Agreed! Thanks for stopping by!
OMGoodness, every time I think of a Jennifer Crusie book, I think of our conversation about Getting Rid of Bradley and the ‘dead dog’ that’s not dead. I laugh every time. Agnes was good, too. 🙂 Great recommendations.
LOL!!! Getting Rid of Bradley was my first Jenny Crusie book and so funny.
In Defense of Food was such a good read. Have you read Michael Pollan’s other books, too?
Thanks for stopping by my post earlier today.
I’ve read everything he’s written on food and nutrition … wasn’t as huge a fan of his last book, “Cooked”, but even it was a pretty decent read. Thanks!
Need to get that nutritional healing book. Anything that will help my diabetes. http://pmprescott.blogspot.com/
I hope it helps! Good luck!
In Defense of Food is new to me; I’ll have to give it a look. Jennifer Crusie is just… I love her books, so great choice there. I haven’t read the In Death books, but everything I hear about them is good.
My list is here.
I haven’t read anyone of these books! Where on earth have I been? lol I should probably get on this list. Thanks for recommending.
Here is my list

Great list. I’ve not read most of them, but will add them to my list of books to check out. Never really got into JD Robb, though I’ve read one or two and I like murder mysteries. Thanks for sharing. Here’s mine. https://www.tenastetler.com/lsrs-wednesdays-blog-challenge-11-6-19-books-ive-recommended-why/
Love the In Death series SO MUCH!!!
The Pollan books are awesome. Definitely agree with you that he gives level-headed information.
And the In Death books are just pure entertainment. Good list 🙂
I think I’ve read some of Jennifer Cruise…I need to recheck my bookshelf.
I’ll have to give “Naked in Death” a try.
