Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A project or hobby of mine inspired by a book

It’s time again for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews.
Today’s topic is: A project or hobby of mine inspired by a book
Okay, so I couldn’t actually think of something that I specifically got interested in from a book, but I will say that I have an active imagination and am easily swayed by things I read (and see). As an example…
When I was younger, I was mad about The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. So, I pretended to be Eilonwy. I spray painted a L’eggs (remember those?) egg gold, spoke with an accent, etc.
Fast forward to high school, when I was completely wrapped up in The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey. I wanted a fire lizard in the worst way (actually, I wanted to impress a dragon, but that wasn’t realistic, lol…apparently the fire lizard was more so in my brain). I had an artist friend draw me one to scale and I glued it onto cardboard and carried that dang thing around with me. Somewhere I have a picture of me holding it…
EDITED TO ADD: Okay, by popular demand, a picture of me holding a fire lizard.  I had to go through THIS completely disorganized box of pictures to find it (it’s a miracle I did).

Here I am.  I had a brown.  My friend, who did the drawing, had a blue. Pay no attention to the red eye issue… this was an instamatic camera with one of those flashes on a stick, and I’m too dang lazy to go into Photoshop and fix it… I was probably about 15 or so here.

Even today, I have these flashes. I’ll watch something on TV and think, “I could do that.” As an example, I LOVE American Ninja Warrior and The Titan Games. And every time I watch an episode, I think…I could go to the gym and learn to do that.
Or, I’ll watch an episode of Hoarders, then immediately clean my house when it’s done.
What about you?

  1. I thought I was the only one who had a painted L’Eggs egg. 🙂 No, really. I had one I painted to tell everyone it was a fairy egg. I don’t know why, but I did it. And yeah, I want to see the photo, too. 🙂

  2. OK, that fire lizard photo is even more incredible than it sounds, and it sounded pretty great. Your friend is fantastic.
And now that you mention it, I DEFINITELY use Hoarders for cleaning inspiration.
