Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Most romantic memory

It’s that time again. The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews. Today’s topic is: Most romantic memory
So, this is actually tough because I guess it matters what you consider “romantic”. Is it a grand gesture? A fancy proposal? Flowers? I dated a guy for a couple of years who was amazingly romantic… he would write poems for me and put together these amazing trips to do unique things. He got us incredible tickets to a show in San Francisco that was preceded with a meal at a super ritzy restaurant, etc., etc.
My husband, OTOH, proposed by handing me the ring and saying, “Here.” Be still my heart… lol… still, it seems to have worked out since we’ve been married more than 20 years now.
But you know what he does that makes my heart swell?
In the dark winter mornings, when I head out for my walks with my headlamp on, he turns on the porch light for me. When my car is covered in sand and salt, he takes it to the car wash without being asked. He defends our daughter against all nay-sayers. When he watches me cut corners on my things, he surprises me with something I need but didn’t want to buy for myself (most recently a warm jacket for my winter morning walks). He changes the oil in my car, he works 60 hour weeks … he sacrifices for us at the expense of himself regularly.
And really, what’s more romantic than that?  I have a husband who’d throw himself in front of a bullet for us, and I’d take that over roses any day.

  1. OMG i Love that he proposed that way!!!! Lovelovelove it! MY hubby never asked me to marry him. He TOLD me when we were on the way to a friend’s New Years Eve party. He was interviewing for a new job and told the recruiter he was engaged. I said, “Why did you lie?” He said, “Because I figured we’d get married.”
    Sososososos romantic ( hee hee!)

  2. Thanks for coming by! I love the practical side of love <3 (I also like flowers … Bob will a lot of time bring plants home, just because…)

    1. Considering my DH’s version of a valentine is a swat on the tush and a ‘you know I love you’… Lol!
Good post. It is the little things that matter. 🙂

  3. I love that proposal story! Too funny.
And, yes, there’s definitely something to be said for practical expressions of love. 🙂
    My post.

  4. My husband is much the same as yours, though he did propose on one knee–in his car–while we were parked at a parking lot. LOL!
The sweetest thing I remember though is one year while we were living apart. He wasn’t going to be able to make my birthday because of his schedule. It happens. So after work I treated myself to takeout from Boston Market. I came home and he met me there with a birthday cake from my most favorite bakery.
He drove 300 miles just to be with me for that one day. He had to leave the next day. I never forgot that.

    1. Okay, how the heck did he get on bended knee IN the car? LOL!! And, yes, it’s not the huge romantic things that matter or that we remember, is it? Greg’s a keeper, but you knew that already 🙂
